Testimonies of Youth Pastor and Sponsors
“I have attended two Urban School of Evangelism mission
trips along with our youth group. I am not a minister, however,
I am the Chief Psychologist at a Federal Correctional Institution
and have spent 15 years working with incarcerated men and women
and I work with them daily on life issues that resulted in their
incarceration. What I see the Oasis providing is a proactive approach
to preventing people from coming to prison in the first place or
in assisting with keeping them from re-offending once they are released
from prison. In my line of work, I am afforded numerous “training”
opportunities. None of them compared to the quality of the training
that is provided by the staff at the Oasis. Ministry was not just
taught, it was encouraged by example and you learned by doing.
I’ve talked to many individuals who go on summer ‘mission
trips.’ None of them compare to the experiences that can be
gained through the Oasis. It is not a vacation and you don’t
sit around. But you do leave with a greater understanding of humanity,
a compassion for people and better equipped to know you can make
a difference in your world. It is one of the busiest weeks of your
life and yet we all left there rejuvenated and renewed, with a sense
of revival in our hearts as we experienced the goodness and grace
of God in a way we had never known.” D.W, Psy.D.,
Youth Sponsor from FL
“We have taken students and adults to do mission trips
with the Oasis for 10 years. There are countless stories of lives
who were touched and changed both of those whom we ministered to
and those who went to help. The Oasis provided numerous opportunities
for us to be trained and be effective.
Our time there had a very positive impact on outreach to our
own community, Lubbock, Texas. We reached out to throwaway teens
hanging out in a park. The police asked us to keep coming because
most of the people in their lives had given up on them.
We have considered it a great privilege to work with Ron and
Judy and the Oasis. They have selflessly and tirelessly invested
their lives to give others a reason to live. They are a great example
for young and old people alike of what it is to 'Love your neighbor.'"
Ed & Connie Ainsworth, former youth pastors and founders
of Whiteheart Communications, Lubbock, Texas
"It has been amazing to see our group grow in confidence
and boldness in Christ and not be ashamed to reach others for His
Kingdom.” R. Taylor, Abilene, Texas
“The week after returning from our mission trip I found
myself ministering to a homeless man in the middle of McDonalds,
I bought him lunch and prayed for him.” She went on to say,
had she not come to Hollywood she would have never done such a thing.
