Our History

In 1968, Judy met Charles McPheeters while on a mission trip to Hollywood, CA. Shortly after, the two of them were married and began their ministry. They traveled the country leading students to Jesus. While youth pastoring in Denver, Charles & Judy also started The Holy Ghost Repair Service. Their goal was to “repair broken lives in the power of the Holy Spirit.”

They did this through The Planet Jerusalem Coffeehouse, Counseling Center and Bookstore, and through a men’s and women’s discipleship home. After attending Christ For The Nations Institute and youth pastoring in Florida, the family made the move back to Los Angeles in 1979—Charles had always dreamed of returning to LA because it was the place where God spared him from a drug overdose.

Charles & Judy, along with good friends, Scott & Nancy Hinkle, began by going out on the streets and talking to people one-on-one. After a few months they started a Bible study for the new believers, and then rented a small storefront bookstore, which became their launching pad to send teams out on the street. Out of the ministry to the young ladies, who were being trafficked, the staff discovered a need for a safe home to help these young women to find healing for their broken lives. They rented a home & called it “The House of Magdalene.” Scores of young women found Jesus and changed the trajectory of their lives.

On July 31, 1982, Charles went to his real home: Heaven. Charles was at peace & healed from cancer, but Judy and her two young children were still here on earth to deal with the heartache and the dilemma of how she would support them. As she began to pray and seek guidance from the Lord, He spoke to her one night from Joshua 1:

“Moses my servant is dead, so now arise and take his place.”

She made all kinds of excuses, “I’m a mother! I’m a housewife, and where’s the money going to come from God?” A few nights later she was reading the Bible and God spoke to her heart: “Fear not! I will provide for and support you and your little ones. And he gave them cheer and hope.” She claimed that promise and carried on with the ministry— now the “Oasis of Hollywood.”

In 1985, God brought along Ron Radachy, who had a heart to reach the lost. God gave Ron the gift of evangelism and he wanted to share with anyone, anywhere, and anytime about what God had done in his life & what He could do in theirs. Ron & Judy married in 1986, and have co-directed the ministry together ever since.

One night, God gave Judy a dream to “rescue the drowning children in Hollywood.”  In obedience to what God was speaking to her, Judy & the Oasis of Hollywood team launched Oasis Children’s Bible Club (now called “Kidz Klub”)— an after-school program reaching marginalized, inner-city children. As those children became older, Judy realized the need for a youth group… and so Oasis Youth was born.

Today, The Oasis of Hollywood serves as a Haven of Hope for Families in Hollywood. We believe in meeting spiritual and practical needs and fully utilizing the resources that God has given us. We do this through several weekly outreaches:  Kidz Klub…Oasis Youth…Grocery Delivery to Families…Grocery Outreach to our neighbors.
With a passion to train others on how to reach others effectively,

The Oasis also hosts Hollywood Mission Trip teams throughout the year. Ron has taught the ABC’s of Evangelism, currently called Your Story Matters, to thousands of people, cross-denominationally and from all 50 states through the years. The Oasis of Hollywood continues to be a Haven of Hope for Families in Hollywood as we continue to Encourage Hope… Inspire Faith… and Develop Potential… one child at a time
